"Rewriting the human relationship with money, it is not about the money, it is about YOU!" by Sanet Van Breda
Money isn’t just spreadsheets or savings goals, it’s a mirror. A reflection of how we think, feel, and make decisions when nobody’s watching. Underneath every money habit is a memory, a belief, or a hidden emotion we haven’t unpacked yet. That’s why so many of us feel stuck, we’re trying to solve an emotional pattern with logical tools.
What if you had a compass for how you naturally relate to money? That’s what Money Temperament gives you: insight into your unique financial personality. Through this lens, clarity flows, guilt fades, and your choices start making sense, not just on paper, but in your soul. You stop fighting your instincts and start co-creating with them.
Ted McLyman’s powerful masterclass reveals how behavioral economics and neuroscience shape your money life, without you even realizing it. You’ll learn how to recognize emotional triggers, unhook from outdated money narratives, and make empowered decisions rooted in who you really are. This isn’t about more discipline, it’s about deeper understanding.
When you understand your Money Temperament, everything changes. You stop playing by rules that were never written for you and start building a life where money is a tool, not a trigger.

Madelyn Blair opens this episode of Unlocked by explaining that the show will explore adult friendship—especially friendships at work—and that it marks the final “programmed topic” installment of her Q4 2025 experiment: tackling one theme across three monthly shows for deeper exploration. She invites audience feedback on whether this structure is worth the extra effort compared with scheduling guests simply based on availability. Madelyn also distinguishes real friendship from “social media friends,” arguing that clicking a button is not the same as mutual care, loyalty, and support.
Madelyn introduces her two returning guests: Julia Larin, former owner of a government contracting firm who later pivoted into coaching and teaching, and Danielle Hughes, Chief Personality Officer at More Than Words Marketing, focused on helping people communicate authentically. Together, they discuss how adult friendships form through trust, vulnerability, shared experiences, and authenticity. Julia describes how workplace trust can evolve into deep friendship—even business partnership—while Danielle frames friendship as “collecting” and cherishing people across life seasons, especially through genuine connection.
They explore practical dynamics: why eating together and informal time accelerate trust, how remote work reduces organic bonding, and how small “micro-connections” still boost wellbeing. The conversation highlights effort and maintenance (including research on hours required to build closeness), obstacles like time and proximity, and advice for younger professionals: be authentic, take initiative, create shared moments, and build relationships as a foundation for resilience. Madelyn closes with Grounds for Thought, emphasizing friendship as social support that helps people stay steady when life changes abruptly.
In this episode of Unlocked, Madelyn Blair welcomes back “Chief Personality Officer” Danielle Hughes to talk about staying real in a world where AI can mimic how we write and speak.
Danielle explains that AI makes personal branding both easier and harder. If you haven’t clarified who you are—your bio, positioning, tone, and values—AI will default to generic, homogenous language. But if you feed it rich, consistent material, plus clear guardrails, it can amplify your voice, not erase it. She stresses that customers still “buy you, not your product,” and that in an AI-saturated world, showing up as a recognizable, imperfect human becomes even more important.
Together they demonstrate using AI live to refine Madelyn’s ideal audience and generate message language that resonates with that audience. The full ChatGPT demonstration and discussion is here: • ChatGPT Personalization Full Demo
In the closing “Grounds for Thought,” Madelyn reflects on her father’s constant reminder, “To thine own self be true." AI, she concludes, can mirror us and even reveal new insights—but it can’t be us. Our voice, values, and humanity are still uniquely ours to protect and express.

In this final episode of our Unlocking Crowdfunding series, we explore why some of the most powerful, overlooked innovation is happening inside nonprofits. Devin Thorpe explains how new organizations—especially those led by women—bring fresh energy, new networks, and creative solutions to persistent problems, even when similar nonprofits already exist. We look at how impact crowdfunding is changing who gets funded, opening doors for diverse founders and social entrepreneurs who have been overlooked by traditional capital. Along the way, Devin shares hard-won lessons on patience, grit, and why serving on a nonprofit board can transform both your career and your contribution.
In this episode you will:
1. Learn why innovation in nonprofits is underestimated and why there is room for new organizations, even in crowded spaces.
2. Understand the basics of impact crowdfunding and what makes a successful campaign—from fair deal terms to powerful social-impact storytelling.
3. Explore the gender gap in nonprofit leadership and capital access, and discover practical strategies for women who want to found, lead, or join boards.
4. Hear how tools like fiscal sponsorship, board service, and persistent optimism can help you turn a mission-driven idea into lasting impact.
Guest introduction:
Devin Thorpe is the CEO of The Super Crowd, Inc., a public benefit corporation that helps diverse founders and social entrepreneurs raise capital through impact crowdfunding. A bestselling author who calls himself a “champion of social good,” Devin has trained and coached nonprofits and mission-driven leaders across the country, particularly in how to fundraise “from the crowd.” His latest book, Crowdfunding Made Simple: A Step-by-Step Guide to Raising Capital Using AI Tools, distills practical strategies for anyone looking to finance impactful ventures. Drawing on his background as an investment banker, CFO, treasurer, and U.S. Senate staffer, he now hosts The Super Crowd Presents: Superpowers for Good, where he features changemakers—from grassroots founders to leaders like Bill Gates—who are using money and innovation to do more good in the world.
In this episode of Unlocked, Madelyn Blair hosts a rich, reflective conversation with healer, shaman, and wisdom keeper Dr. Tom Garcia, joined by co-host and conversational expert Dr. Kelly Cresup. The episode centers on three intertwined themes: identity, boundaries, and the kind of inner work that leads to resilience and spiritual leadership.
Madelyn opens by introducing Tom’s long path through the healing arts and his contribution to the book The Difference, in which his chapter “Roar at the Moon” describes a crucible moment in his life. Asked why identity matters, Tom explains that most people define themselves by superficial markers—age, career, roles—but beneath those layers is a deeper, truer identity. His work is about helping people discover that inner self, which becomes a source of purpose, guidance, and humility.
Tom shares his own circuitous path: uncertain at 18, he joined the Navy, later left to pursue chiropractic, then moved into men’s work and, eventually, a deep spiritual path catalyzed by the death of a close friend. Caring for this friend in his final months broke Tom open and led him into nights by the fire, journaling, “roaring at the moon,” and asking the profound questions: Who am I? Why am I here? Who sent me? In that solitude, he learned to listen for an inner voice—what he calls internal guidance—which he believes everyone has.
The conversation then turns to boundaries. Tom recounts a conflict with a friend that led to an epiphany: he was angry about a boundary violation, but realized he’d never truly defined his own boundaries. He began consciously exploring where he ended and others began—physically, emotionally, energetically—and how honoring himself allowed him to honor others. Over time, he learned that a strong sense of self creates a kind of field around us that discourages intrusion.
Kelly invites Tom to talk about conflict and “energy vampires.” Tom describes becoming very calm when challenged, recognizing that most attacks are really about the other person, not him. From that place, he can respond with direct yet compassionate questions like, “What do you really need?” Sometimes, simply refusing to “feed” draining behavior is the healthiest boundary; other times, a firm “Knock that off” is necessary. Across situations, he aims to remain “light as a feather” with himself and others.
Fire and nature play a central role in Tom’s work. He has built a fire circle in the woods where he works with clients—often CEOs, entrepreneurs, and business owners who are successful outwardly but feel spiritually hungry. Around the fire, in a deliberately created sacred space, people relax their guards and speak more honestly. Fire becomes both symbol and portal: a grounding, elemental presence that invites release, prayer, and connection with something larger than oneself.
For younger listeners, Tom suggests paying attention to “clues” that it’s time for deeper self-inquiry: a persistent sense that there is “something more,” repeated breakdowns or crises, or what he calls “slaps from the universe.” He references life phases like the Saturn return around ages 27 and 54 as natural turning points for transformation.
The episode closes with a discussion of spiritual leadership: leaders who follow their inner guidance, honor the spirit in others, and practice solitude, reflection, and journaling. Madelyn then recommends The Transformation by Dr. James Gordon, highlighting its blend of story, science, and practical tools—like belly breathing and dialoguing with difficult emotions—as another path to meaning, healing, and resilience.
